【Topic】Hwa Chong Institution Exchange Program

【Date】2025.11.18 9:00~13:30

【Location】Zhishan 2F Conference Room, TFG Campus

【News report】

The exchange program with Hwa Chong Institution was held on Nov. 18th. We expected to build friendships over the cultural differences and distance between the two countries. The opening ceremony began with the remark from Secretary Chu-Hung Lai and Mr. Bryant Hsieh representing our principal to welcome HCI teachers and students to TFG. Next, the Subject Head of Humanities Program, Mr. Benjamin Hathaway, also gave a remark appreciating the enthusiastic reception. Later on, the two schools exchanged gifts. TFG prepared the appreciation plaque, oolong tea, and high mountain tea. Then, HCI gave us the Singapore coffee and the local specialty, the salted egg potato chips.

Coming up next is the introduction of Taiwan and TFG by the presentation department of the Student Ambassadors. Starting from tourist attractions, rich food culture, and traditional festivals, to the technology and semiconductor industry development. Lastly, they introduced the history and daily life in TFG. In the presentation, there were some Q&A sections, making the atmosphere livelier. The following is the presentation from HCI students. They used Chinese and English fluently to introduce the history, tourist attractions, and the “hawker culture”, which is inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. What’s more, they also presented the history, outstanding alumni, and various courses of Hwa Chong Institution. Everybody enjoyed the introductions.

The next section was the in-class experience that everyone was looking forward to. Students were divided into groups joining different classes. For instance, the English Drama class, Jazz Improvisation & Ensemble class, and physics lesson. While doing the experiment and discussion, TFG students formed friendships with HCI students. At the end of the class, many students were taking selfies with each other to keep this exciting moment.

Before lunchtime, Principal Chen Chih-Yuan of TFG came to the event and expressed his welcome to Hwa Chong Institution. Besides talking about the exchange programs in the past between the two schools, he also conveyed how the Taipei International Youth Science Forum last week was affected by HCI. Also, he is looking forward to learning and growing together.

During lunch time, Student Ambassadors exchanged gifts with HCI students. Chatting about our daily life, schools, and hobbies, we both got to know more about both countries and schools. Before leaving the school, everyone took a group photo in front of the Guan-Fu Building. We waved them farewell, bringing an end to this wonderful event.

The exchange program between the two schools concluded successfully. Students from both schools gained a lot. Many friendships blossom after the exchange program. This event is believed to not only continued the relationships between two schools, but also to represent the bonds between Taiwan and Singapore.
