This inaugural forum brought together more than 150 outstanding students from 9 overseas high schools in Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia, along with 18 high schools from across Taiwan, creating a vibrant stage for scientific research and academic exchange. On the morning of November 11, the forum proudly welcomed Professor Andre K. Geim, the 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics and widely known as the “Father of Graphene,” as its keynote speaker. As the sixth Nobel Prize winner to speak at TFG, his visit symbolized international recognition of the school’s dedication to scientific education and served as an inspiring boost to TFG’s mission of nurturing future generations of elite women scientists. Professor Geim’s keynote explored the journey of scientific discovery—from unconventional experimentation to breakthroughs in new materials. Introducing the concept of “Friday-Night Experiments,” he encouraged students to appreciate how seemingly casual or spontaneous experiments can spark major scientific advancements. During the lively Q&A session that followed, moderated by teacher Hsieh Chih-Chieh, students eagerly raised questions, contributing to a dynamic and engaging atmosphere. Near midday, Taipei Mayor Wayne Chiang made a special appearance to extend a warm welcome to all students from Taiwan and abroad. He emphasized that “learning from the world and reshaping the future of education” is both the vision and the promise of Taipei’s education system. He encouraged students to treat TIYSF as the starting point of their dreams—continuing to explore the unknown and courageously stepping onto the global stage. After his remarks, the mayor visited the poster exhibition area on the first floor of Hsueh-Chu Building, where he listened to presentations from students of Zhonglun High School, Taitung Girls’ Senior High School, and Malaysia’s Pay Fong High School, commending their commitment and achievements. In the afternoon, TFG teachers led students in hands-on scientific workshops across four major disciplines—physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science. The diverse courses simulated real research environments and included topics such as “From Logic Gates to Adders: An Introduction to Digital Circuit Experiments,” “Small Green Crystals and Cyanotype artwork experiment,” “Learning from cockroaches: Cockroach’s behavior, physiology and anatomy,” and “Geophysicist for a Day: Viewing Seismic Wave Data from a Gutenberg Perspective.” Through these activities, students experienced the joy of scientific inquiry through practical experimentation. Beyond academic activities, the first evening featured a “Taipei City Tour.” TFG’s “Student Ambassadors” served as cultural guides, leading visiting students from abroad and other regions of Taiwan to explore Taipei’s landmarks, taste local foods, and experience the city’s vibrant cultural energy. Through youth participation and cross-cultural interaction, the event highlighted Taipei’s welcoming, diverse, and innovative character. On the second day (November 12), the forum welcomed leading experts from industry, government, and academia.
